Clinical Experience

Dr. Elizabeth Hoose is a gifted clinical psychologist who specializes in working with adults and couples who have experienced complex trauma, relationship difficulties, or who have undergone significant life changes. She also excels at therapeutic assessment, and providing diagnostic clarification to patients who are unsure of their diagnosis.

Dr. Hoose has been trained to work with a large variety of presenting problems including mood disorders, anxiety, LGBTQ issues, burnout and chronic stress, family of origin issues, identity issues, trauma and PTSD, ADHD, and adjustment concerns. Additionally, she has experience working with spiritual trauma and faith transitions, and psychedelic integration work.

Clinically, she incorporates skills from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Existential Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Humanistic Therapy.

Dr. Hoose is a licensed psychologist and Health Service Provider in the state of North Carolina and in the state of Utah. Her therapeutic approach is largely grounded in psychodynamic and humanistic theory and she pulls from several evidence-based practices such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT).

Dr. Hoose strongly believes in genuine connection and “being human” in the therapeutic process. She offers a grounded, realistic approach to treatment while exploring different ways of living a full, authentic life. She values holistic and scientifically validated practices in treatment while also understanding that each individual has their own meaning and purpose to pursue.

Dr. Hoose offers both individual and couples therapy. She enjoys working with individuals who have experienced mood disorders, anxiety, LGBTQ issues, burnout and chronic stress, family of origin issues, complex trauma and PTSD, ADHD, adjustment concerns, spiritual trauma and faith transitions, and identity issues. In couples work, she enjoys helping couples gain insight into their patterns of relating to one another and learn how to better understand each other, whether a couple is just starting out or has been together for a long time. She also works with couples on ways to effectively support each other when one of them is struggling with depression, anxiety, or complex trauma. Dr. Hoose is also proficient in helping couples navigate separation – whether they are in the process of deciding to separate or have already decided. Dr. Hoose is also skilled in assisting couples with non-traditional relationships.

Education and Experience

Dr. Hoose received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Brigham Young University in 2012. She then worked for the State of Utah in child welfare as a social worker prior to attending graduate school. She obtained her Masters and Doctorate from George Fox University in Oregon in 2015 and 2019 respectively.

Over the course of her graduate training, Dr. Hoose worked in a variety of settings including community mental health, child and adolescent centers, schools, university counseling centers, and long-term residential facilities for severe and persistent mental illness.

She is trained in individual therapy, interpersonal and skills-based group therapy, couples therapy, ADHD and Learning Disability Assessment, court-ordered psychological assessment, and personality assessment. She also has extensive experience in theory-based research and philosophy stemming from her undergraduate days and continuing on today.

She completed her pre-doctoral internship at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah and stayed on staff after it’s completion. She ran interpersonal therapy groups, an LGBTQ+ therapy group, served as a Diversity coordinator on staff, performed ADHD assessments, did crisis sessions, individual and couples therapy, and was known for her work with students experiencing spiritual/faith transitions. Also during this time, she completed a psychedelic integration therapy training program.

Her training overall can be considered generalist, or eclectic, and Dr. Hoose has interest, training, and talent in a wide variety of subjects. She enjoys integrating her diverse training into a private practice setting in meaningful and compassionate ways that best serve her clients’ therapeutic goals.
